Guess where I am? I'm stuck in a giant snowstorm in Lake Tahoe, sitting on a couch in a multi-million dollar home with my puppy and five friends, watching the Oscars. Earlier today, we spent six hours stuck in a car stuck in the snow on the side of Highway 89. I was also hit by a car that was hit by a truck in a hit-and-run in front of a snowboard shop, although I luckily escaped with just a bruise. We had to hike up through over a foot of snow to get back to this house, where we are currently hibernating.
The Academy Awards this year are hosted by Ellen DeGeneres, who has so far been pretty fucking hilarious, but not as funny as the musical mock-up that Will Ferrell, Jack Black, and John C. Reilly did about being a comedian at the Oscars. Letters of Iwo Jima and Rinko Kikuchi for Babel are prime contenders from Japan. (Letters already won Best Achievement in Sound Editing in the first hour.) And everything's been going okay, except they just said that The Departed is a remake of the Japanese movie Infernal Affairs. Hello---that's Chinese, fools. Does ANYONE know the difference?
Update: Rinko didn't win Best Supporting Actress; Jennifer Hudson did.
The only difference I can think of is that Infernal Affairs is a Hong Kong movie, rather than a Japanese one. ;)
