You know you've always wanted to stay in Capsule Hotel. (Capsule hotel=cheap ($30), no-frills lodging that consists of a single "bed" contained in one capsule among many, stacked in rows in one big room. Shared bathrooms, snack vending machines, and lockers for your belongings are also available.) But it's hard to figure out the logistics, like where to find one, how to book one, etc. Well I'm gonna make it real easy for you. You know that trip to Akihabara that you've been yearning to take? Your fantasy of totally geeking out for a day by being inundated with comic books and cosplay shops and electronics, and electronics, and even more electronics? It's just a couple clicks away. Don't forget to book your plane tickets first.
Get a "room" at the Capsule Inn Akihabara here.

Is it just me, or would I be totally freaked out to place myself into a coffin-like structure to fall asleep in? It's hard for me to believe that enough people trust in this method to warrant an entire hotel being built of them. Space-efficient, I'll grant you, but that's just another word for claustrophobic.

You caught me. I really, honestly have wanted to stay in a capsule hotel. Thanks for the tip. Whenever I manage to get to Japan you can bet I'll cram myself into one of these one day.

There's a GREAT one in Osaka very near to Shinsaibashi. I've stayed there at least a dozen times, and what's great about it is that they have a seperate women's floor. Most capsule hotels don't allow women in them--so finding one that does is awesome. :)
Capsule hotels rock! They're cheap, clean and usually close to everything. What more could a gaijin traveler ask for?

I'll probably try it out at least once, just for the experience of it. I'm just tall enough to fit and it's wide enough for my shoulders. Otherwise, unless you're renting an apartment/mansion, I'd suggest Toyoko Inn's.
