Too bad Sanyo's chairwoman stepped down from one of the only corporate executive posts held by a woman today. A former TV journalist, 52-year old Tomoyo Nonaka had virtually no consumer electronics experience but was seen as a promising choice when she was appointed to the post in 2005.
Sanyo hasn't been doing so hot these days. It wasn't doing well when she started, anyway, but now its facing a third straight year of losses and some auditing issues. Who wants those? Not that it was necessarily Ms. Nonaka's fault.
Nonetheless, I wish they'd kept her there because her resignation probably dropped the ratio of women to men in positions of power in Japan from like one in a million to one in a billion.
