In the past couple of years, the police agency's been seeing an unprecedented hike in the number of kids wanting to murder their parents. Some notable incidents from last year:
Nara, June 06: A 16-year old boy puts his house, his mom, and his 2 siblings on fire, destroying them all.
Chiba, July 06: A 19-year old girl sets her dad on fire.
Hokkaido, August 06: A 16-year old boy and his friend "hack his mother to death."
In at least one of these cases, extreme pressure to succeed from the parent was cited as the motive.
In last week's episode of NBC's Heroes, the villain, Sylar, goes home to his mom's house and asks her in a rare display of vulnerability to say, just once, that it's completely okay for him to just be a watchmaker. Of course, the background to this is that Sylar has been going around murdering people left and right because he believes he's destined for something bigger. This plea to his mom is like his last attempt at saving his own soul. His mom takes Sylar's face in her hands and says, "Why would I ever tell you that when I know you're capable of so much more?"
Wrong thing to say, mom. Sylar then goes back out on the streets on his murder spree.
Moral of this blog post: Parents, don't pressure your kids to be something they aren't. And kids, don't murder your parents please no matter what.
wasn't there a recent case where a 17-year old boy turned himself in for the murder of his mother, along with his mother's head?
