Two big news items today on minors who chopped off somebody else's head:
1. Sakakibara Seito, the sicko who beheaded an elementary school boy and put it in front of his school on a weekday morning a decade ago, sent a letter of apology to the parents of the victim. Since he was only 14 when he killed little Jun Hase, nobody gets to know who he is, and he got out of jail free a couple years ago. Scary, scary. According to an earlier report in a weekly, he now frequents a sex shop in Ehime in a bikini.
2. The boy who chopped of his mom's head last week told police that he went to a karaoke bar after he killed his mom. I'm not kidding. Homeboy decided it would be a good idea to relieve the tension in his messed up head by singing a little Mariah Carey. Or maybe he sang enka.
The names of both these boys are kept confidential due to a law that protects minors who commit crimes from being identified publicly.
When I lived in Japan there were rumors that there was a guy who killed his mother when he was young living with his grandparents on the outskirts of town. I figured they were kidding, but I mentioned it to my Japanese teacher one night and she confirmed the story.
Scary stuff.
