Young Japanese people can think about kissing their pension plans goodbye. Studies predict that, by 2055, over 2/5 of the population will be over the age of 65. How crazy is that???
There's a negative feedback loop in play here—young people don't want to work because they know they won't reap the benefits of it when they get older, but without work you can't support a family. So people aren't having kids as much, no new people are born, and the population ages even more. Something like that.
