Two freak accidents in the news today: A 28-year old woman was strolling along on a sidewalk in Shinjuku when a sign from a pizza place fell on her head. The pizza place was a chain restaurant called Il Vigore—the owner insists there was nothing wrong with the sign, but the woman is is in the hospital with a brain contusion.
Also today, a fancy day spa in an upscale neighborhood in Shibuya exploded, killing one woman three women and injuring four two others. Not that much detail on this has been divulged yet, but we know it was a women-only spa and that from now on the ladies are going to be freaking out—not relaxing mindlessly—every time they lie down for a hot stone massage. Talk about collective trauma.
Today's gotta be one of those days where you switch on the local news and realize that ordinary events like a leisurely walk or a steam facial can be met with random, unforeseeable tragedy.
