No, this is not a riddle. It is the question that looms in my head when I think about the hit-and-run that happened this past weekend on a roadside in Fuchu, a suburb of Tokyo (actually where my high school was located). What kind of man sleeps on the side of the road? My first guess would be: someone who is homeless or too drunk to get home. Ironically, the guy that was hit was Manabu Inoguchi, a local welfare council official.
It's also not that funny either, because Inoguchi actually died on that roadside, hit by a car that sped off after the incident, according to a witness. How they knew that he was sleeping when he was hit, I don't know. May he rest in peace—hopefully in a safer place this time.
