Geeksugar interviewed me last week for their Geeky Girls We Love series. I had this big debate with one of my editors at Wired last week about whether I was a geek or not. I had never identified as one, even though I am fully aware of the fact that the core audience for many of the stories I write are considered just that.
In Tokyo, it's not geeky at all to read manga or watch anime or to have quirky peripherals hanging from your gadgets, I said. Mainstream cool people subscribe to these trends, too. But in the US, if you're a Japanophile and you like these things, you're probably a geek, the editor explained. OK. I get it.
He also pointed out that there is a big difference between "geek" and "nerd." According to his definition, geeks are higher up on the social skillz totem pole than nerds.
Whew! I'm glad it was Geeksugar, not Nerdsugar.

Heh. Once at the San Diego Comicon I saw an SDSU jock with "Greek Week" on his shirt. I said, "Oh, I though that said Geek Week." He was so offended, and I actually didn't know why until a while later. WTF?

I can feel a sense of sarcasm. Hah!
Besides, the interview was a bit short. No? Actually, Lisa-san is quite good-looking. I didn't notice until now. Lisa, let me be your iPhone guy. (^^;;;
Greetings from a not so geeky Switzerland.
