Garbagemen Find $100K, Turn it in to Cops

ImagesThis is what an honest country Japan can be: garbage collectors found 10 million yen ($100K) in a discarded pot. Instead of keeping it for themselves, they contacted police and are now conducting a public search for its rightful owner.

Actually, they don't know it yet, but that cash was mine.

ah, but those garbagemen aren't so dumb. They'd be prime suspects if they kept the money and *nobody* wants to go to a Japanese prison! Besides, one of the reasons that everybody's so honest here (besides being really, really nice) is that under Japanese law, if nobody claims the money after a year, the finder gets it all. Also, if the owner does claim it, they have to give a 10% reward to the finders. I think the cops deduct it automatically if you're hesitant to do it yourself.
