Basta Pasta, Yummy Japanese-Style Italian Food

Picture_3

I'm in New York City and the hotel I'm staying in doesn't have free Internet, so here's a quick post about the restaurant I had dinner at last night. It's called Basta Pasta NYC, and it's a Japanese-owned Italian restaurant with awesomely Japanese pasta dishes like tobiko-shiso spaghetti and onsen tamago. It's off of Union Square, and I was craving fish egg spaghetti so I went there with five of my college girl friends. They all live in the city but some of them hadn't seen each other since we graduated. Too bad I was too full for the purin (Japanese-style flan) they serve for dessert.

Anyway, strongly recommended for anyone who likes any kind of food with a Japanese touch. Not to be mistaken with fusion, which is often just western food infused with Asian.

Wabt free internet? Maybe a starbucks, I think could help.

Or some public places.

Tarako Spaghetti is my favorite!! Used to make it myself when parents would send me frozen tarako but it's always better at a restaurant!!

Mmmmmmmmmm....

Who doesn't crave fish-egg pasta? lol

I had never seen/heard of tobiko pasta before. I guess if you drop a little mayo on there, I'm good to go. Wait...also add some rooster sauce. (whatever it's called) for some spice.

P.S. Why does it seem like every hotel I stay at in the U.S. charges for Internet, while here in Japan it's part of the deal. (I haven't been to Europe in a while, but it wasn't complementary there either.)

Hmm...I can probably answer my own question. Koreans as they're the #1 tourist in Japan at the moment.

Vagrant - It depends on the hotel you stay. Any of the "upscale" western hotels like the Shinagawa Prince or the Meridian Pacific, or even Hotel Okura will charge for internet. Meanwhile the smaller cheaper (but I stress the word smaller...) business hotels like the Mets offer free internet.

Personally I found more free internet hotels in the US than in Japan... But I guess it's all a matter of perception.
