We're seeing two different population trends in Japan these days, one that indicates that we will live longer than ever, another that points at an increasingly multi-ethnic country. This year, life expectancy for men and women are at record highs—79.19 and 85.99 years, respectively, according to a recent government report. Japanese woman have the highest life expectancy rate in the world. (For men, Iceland and Hong Kong are a little bit ahead.)
On a separate note, a survey found that 1 out of 30 babies born in Japan in 2006 had a non-Japanese parent.
