I arrived in Tokyo around 4PM yesterday afternoon, took a shower at home, and then promptly went to a 12-person dinner organized by my friend Hitoshi, a major foodie. He took us to his friend's restaurant, Chiaki, in Tsukiji. Freshest blowfish in Tokyo. The guy who runs the restaurant is pretty cool—his wife is a famous voice actor from Urusei Yatsura, and the guy himself has been the subject of a movie, a manga, and a TV drama. The above was our first dish, a boiled turban shell. More pics of crazy seafood after the jump.
I'm very impressed if you actually managed to eat one of the turban shells! Last year my father-in-law was given some pretty large turban shells, and was all excited about eating them.
But as it turned out apart from him, only one of us tried one, and his response was '苦い'. Suffice to say that while I will try most foods (even spider in Cambodia) I would not touch the さざえ.

Hira sake is delicious! I thought it smells as good as it tastes too. It is definitely on my list of must haves when I am in Japan.

I love oysters! The fish tail sake looks good too.
That other thing - I'd have to be drunk to try that!
